Maybe one should call them Rare Red Diamonds….because Natural Fancy Red diamonds are the rarest of the colored diamonds. It is almost impossible to find a pure red, without any hues, and as a result, red diamond prices are extremely high.
In 2001, Mousaieff Jewelers purchased a 5.11cts Pure Red which was cut from a 13.90carat rough. It was to have been the biggest Fancy Red to be graded.
There are only a few pure red diamonds recorded in history, which explains why there are so few red diamonds for sale. Red diamonds are so exceptional, that most jewelers have never seen one.
